You can go higher if you want, but you probably won’t benefit much from it, and it likely won’t be worth the extra cost, which can be considerable.

Also, apply it liberally — ideally, about 2 tbsp. worth for exposed areas such as the face and hands. Many people use only a thin coat, which dramatically reduces how well it protects you. So don’t scrimp, and apply it generously instead. If you’re spending time outdoors, especially if you’re swimming or sweating, apply sunscreen every 2 hours for continuous protection.
